Wax paper and license plates

Question:

There are marks on my 1934 Nebraska plate. I wonder if the marks on the numbers are from paper in between the plates?

Answer:

The marks on the 1934 Nebraska are from the wax paper that was used originally to separate the pair. This seems to happen with a lot of plates from the 1930s, and probably depends on how the plates were stored.
