Unused License Plates

Question:

You have Colorado 65 plates that are old but unused in the package. How often do you come by completely unused 65 plates like that? I would eventually like to add them to my 1965 car but was hoping over time something unique would come up with my initials for example. When did Colorado begin to let 30 plus year old cars do the Year of Manufacture thing?

Answer:

In Colorado each of the 63 counties had plates to issue and usually there were leftovers. Collectors were able to get these from county clerks before they were destroyed. Stocks of unused plates for most years from after WWII until 1976, plus a number of years prior to WWII, have survived.
