Current popular auction plate winner for Boyd (ebay ID “LicpL8s”) so far for this week:
Popular because it’s uncommon, this Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands (TTPI) plate is specifically issued for the Marshall Islands district. The top text reads “TRUST TERRITORY PACIFIC ISLANDS”, which was a United Nations trusteeship administered by the United States from 1947 until it gradually dissolved in the 1980s and 1990s. The bottom text specifies “MARSHALLS”, indicating its assignment to the Marshall Islands district before it became an independent nation in free association with the U.S.
A yellow validation sticker displays 1975, marking the active registration year. Notably, 1975 was a critical year for the territory, as it was when residents voted in a status referendum regarding their future political independence.
